Maria Belafonte, is a 3rd generation Russian, Scottish, Jamaican, Lithuanian hailing from Los Angeles, California... a mish-mosh of identity that she is still trying to wrap her head around. She is a 2019 graduate from New York University’s Gallatin School for Individualized Study, where she created her own major, The Iconography of Selfhood and Celebrity in Visual Culture, focusing in film studies, gender studies and postcolonial theory.
Through film Maria looks at ways to tell character driven stories that question the society we live in and bring to light new ideas on old concepts
She is currently working on her first feature film.
